Can Big Brands Excite Gaming Enthusiasts with Their Gaming Laptop Lines

Filed under: Technology Tips — admin at 7:39 am on Thursday, August 28, 2008

It was not very long ago when only a handful of brands produced laptops for gaming. Even though they were not amazing sellers they did have amazing mark ups. They were the type of notebook computer that everyone wanted, but the price did not fall in their price range. I bet you could say they were the best laptop computers around, at least power wise. Gaming laptops would get people excited in regard to what’s to be launched in a couple of years but I do not believe they would buy laptop computers like this knowing the price is going to drop quickly. Recently it appears as if bigger companies are all getting into the market really quickly and things are changing.

I bet they could class it as a premium product and make a lot of cash on these particularly with their mass production techniques. These brands have possibly been losing a bit of cash on standard units so this should be a welcomed opportunity. Getting buyers to buy laptop computers is rather easy for global companies. I am quite confident that local sellers will have to reduce their prices for them to compete. I know for a fact that laptops for gaming will get greatly affordable for everybody. Buyers will additionally gather tons more peace of mind when spending a larger amount of cash.

To my astonishment the brand name gaming laptop computers are as good or even better than the best laptop computers at present. This holds the potential to be extremely beneficial for little retailers. People like the service to configure because they can choose what’s most desirable to them. These types of customers more often then not are well educated in the technology and would compare part for part. If choosing specs and aesthetics, these purchasers will choose the former.

This is outstanding news from a buyers perspective. Newer technology will be more purchasable in the future for numerous purchasers as it will act to drive margins down even more. I say that quite hesitatingly though as the notebook computer business is a pretty fast moving place. Brand new notebook computers are continuously being introduced and these new systems always go for premium prices. It is difficult to know what will occur now that the large brands have become involved in making laptops for gaming.

Team Chemistry in Highly-Effective Teams

Filed under: Marketing Management — admin at 4:09 am on Thursday, August 28, 2008

Most of us have witnessed first hand that not all well-intentioned teams work well together. The most important characteristic of a highly-effective team is that the members all strive to accomplish the team goals. The goals should be clear, realistic, measurable, and supportable by both team members and upper management.

Ideally, your team should be comprised of people with complementary skills, experience, behavior, and team roles. This diversity often leads to a richer solution. Co-workers need to cooperate, communicate honestly, and should share their knowledge and skills with each other in order to attain mutually agreed-upon goals.

Just how important is the chemistry on a team?

There is significant debate about what other characteristics are necessary, even to the point of whether to fix personality clashes. For example, the musical team of Rodgers and Hammerstein created brilliant musicals, but didn’t get along well with each other. Many business leaders list commitment, loyalty, vision, urgency, motivation, synergy, collaboration, open-mindedness, progressive thinking, inspired leadership, respect, and effective communications as necessary elements. Others suggest excluding certain types of people from teams: big egos, snakes, and silent or reluctant members. In some companies, it would be difficult to imagine trying to kick a big ego off a team or label someone a ’snake’ and ask them to leave. Also, given the pace of business, it’s very difficult to craft all the positive attributes one can think of into each team member in a short amount of time.

Could your teams work together more effectively? Are they as innovative as you’d like them to be? Does your company reward team participation as much as it rewards individual efforts? Building highly-effective teams can be a significant challenge. Imagine, for a moment, what the effect is of reduced conflict and stress in a team. Team members get to spend more time on productive work and less in conflict. Team members are more energized, less distracted, and have more energy when they go home at night. Teams stuck in a ’storming’ mode sometimes need outside intervention to improve performance and reduce conflict and stress.

There are many ways to approach team-building. For example, the armed forces use weeks or months of training as a means to build effective teams. Some organizations use retreats with a sequence of team-building experiences to aid in developing good team behavior. Unfortunately today, many businesses have significantly reduced training budgets or throw together a team to solve a particular problem without the luxury of training or the aid of a skilled facilitator on the team. There are some short-term steps you can take to reduce conflict and stress, and improve team effectiveness.

Here is a four step approach to diagnose team issues and develop some positive momentum:

  1. Observe the team in action. Unfortunately, whenever you introduce an observer, the team behavior changes. The observer might only see people using good behavior, but even this is significant and provides useful data for followup coaching sessions. On the other hand, much can be learned by simply observing the team in action and applying this information in later steps.
  2. Confidentially survey the team members individually to identify conflict sources. It is important that all team members trust the people conducting the survey and trust the process. If the team members have been together for some period of time they’ll have some notion of other members’ skills, experience, behavior, roles, strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, etc. And, if they trust the process, they’ll provide valuable clues and perspectives on team issues.
  3. Facilitate quick-fix solutions where appropriate. An outside facilitator can often quickly help clear up misunderstandings, improve team morale, improve a meeting process, foster better communication, etc. An outside facilitator should not be utilized to quickly advance hidden agendas, overwhelm a minority position, or short-circuit a proven process to achieve a speedy decision. Some quick-fixes can occur during the Survey step if the survey is performed as interviews, but the real goal of the survey is to gather information for use in subsequent steps.
  4. Work on larger issues through assessments, coaching and other means. Self-learning assessments can be a valuable tool when properly administered. Any instrument that helps a team member improve their performance pays continual dividends. Coaching provides a forum for discussing hard-to-accept, beneficial concepts, serves to reinforce the lessons gleaned from the assessments, and helps team members incorporate these concepts into their teamwork by discussing situations with the coach as they arise. The team, itself, can tackle some of the issues uncovered in the survey when the summary results are made available.

A trained facilitator can introduce one of the self-assessment tools mentioned in step 4 such as a DISC profile to the team in a workshop setting. The instrument explores behavior across four primary dimensions: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness. The profile helps team members, in a non-judgmental way, understand their own behavior, learn how and when to adapt their behavior, improve communication, promote appreciation of differences, enhance individual and team performance, and reduce conflict. In the DISC model, D’s are direct, decisive, strong-willed, strong-minded people who like accepting challenges, taking action, and getting immediate results.

I’s are “people people” who like participating on teams, sharing ideas, and energizing and entertaining others. S’s are helpful people who like working behind the scenes, performing in consistent and predictable ways, and being good listeners. C’s are sticklers for quality who like planning ahead, employing systematic approaches, and checking and re-checking for accuracy. Everyone has some of each dimension, but certain behavioral tendencies can lead to conflict and stress more readily. The in-depth DISC profile reports provide a powerful tool for understanding an individual’s behavior and for assessing how that behavior plays out in a team setting.

Following these four steps can lead to reduced conflict and stress as well as improved team effectiveness.

The Reluctant Sailor - Tips for the Sailing Beginner

Filed under: Marketing Management — admin at 8:11 pm on Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Stroll around any marina and you will soon spot the classic sailing characters: the old enthusiast, patiently restoring a wooden shell to its sleek former self; the dedicated racer, tweaking his stripped out, cutting edge craft; or even tanned BMW man, who turns up on sunny weekends to take his latest woman out for a spin in his souped-up power boat.

Move to the bar, and you’ll find them easily. The old hand, scruffed down, ready for that all important anti-fouling job. The smart executive, shades in hand, leading an enthusiastic team-building session. Or the sun-bleached student, fresh from his gap year spent taking boats down to the Med.

But what about the rest? What about the unsung sailors? What about those resigned individuals who, worn down after years of hints, huffs and sweet-talking, finally utter the fateful words: ‘Oh, for God’s sake, alright then!’

In less time than it takes to hoist a mainsail, these women (for they are usually women) find themselves huddled nervously on the deck of a boat, trying to come to terms with the fact that yachts are supposed to tip over, and that this is good thing.

There are a surprising number of these reluctant sailors. Most, like me, would prefer never to set foot on a boat but, driven by the need to see their sailing-mad partners on at least one weekend out of twenty, occasionally venture out onto the water.

In my case, my ‘Reluctant Sailor’ status comes largely down to a fear of venturing into an alien environment, where I am not in control.

I do not like not being in control. When a yacht tips over, I want to know that it - that I! - can do something to correct it. When we are picking our way through a narrow channel, I want to know how to avoid hitting unseen rocks or other boats, and when my children are sitting on deck, I want to know how to rescue them if they fall into the water.

Education is the key and unfortunately this means that I, as the terrified new owner of a yacht, now face the prospect of learning to sail, so that I am not frightened of sailing.

But my reluctance stems not only from fear. There are many other reasons why I have no interest in sailing. It is cold. It is wet. It is usually raining, and always uncomfortable. Be honest now. How many good nights’ sleep have you ever had on a yacht?

And yes, while there are around three days out of every year when weather, location and company combine to make sailing a blissful experience, does that really make up for the other 362 days when it is not?

My husband thinks it does. And so, nine years after we exchanged our dinghy for a baby and a pair of patio doors, I have finally relented. We have bought a yacht.

He is happy. The kids are happy. And I…. I have come up with some ground rules to keep me happy…

  1. The Force Four Rule - The Reluctant Sailor will not set foot on the boat if the forecast even hints at winds above force 4. [This rule is an adaption of the existing 12 C rule for dinghy sailing]

  2. The Sunshine Rule - The Reluctant Sailor will not go sailing if there is no prospect of sunshine over the period of the sailing expedition.

  3. The Anchorage Rule - No anchorage will be acceptable to the Reluctant Sailor unless it is within 100 metres of a pub/restaurant/hotel, and preferably a small town with a guaranteed escape route.

  4. The Fair’s Fair Rule - The Sailing Fanatic will match every week/weekend that the Reluctant Sailor spends sailing with a week/weekend somewhere warm, dry and comfortable - preferably abroad.

  5. The Don’t Shout Rule - The Sailing Fanatic must not shout excitedly when asking the Reluctant Sailor to do something. The Reluctant Sailor reserves the right to tell the Sailing Fanatic where to stick his boat if he raises his voice.

  6. The Rain Rule - Unless the presence of the Reluctant Sailor is required on deck to avoid capsize, collision or other near-death experience, the Sailing Fanatic will deal with all work on deck while it is raining. The Reluctant Sailor will be having coffee and Kit-Kat’s in the cabin.

  7. The Maintenance Rule - The Reluctant Sailor shall not be expected to maintain the boat under any circumstances. The words ‘anti-fouling’, ’sanding’ and ‘painting’ are of absolutely no interest to the Reluctant Sailor.

  8. The Too Much Time Rule - The Sailing Fanatic is not allowed to go into a huff when the Reluctant Sailor casually mentions that the Sailing Fanatic has spent the last four weekends ‘fiddling with that wretched boat’, and that the handsome divorcee from next door has moved in to keep the Reluctant Sailor company.

  9. The Packing Rule - The Sailing Fanatic will keep his mouth firmly closed on the subject of packing for a sailing expedition. The Reluctant Sailor reserves the right to bring along anything and everything needed to sustain her through the ordeal, but will, if pushed, draw the line at the handsome divorcee from next door.

  10. The Children Rule - The Reluctant Sailor will not be solely responsible for entertaining/controlling the children in the cramped and un-child friendly environs of a boat. The Sailing Fanatic wished for a family sailing experience and a family sailing experience he shall get.

  11. The Money Rule - The Sailing Fanatic accepts that once the sailing budget is gone, it is gone. He will just have to wait for that essential bit of kit. Any suggestion that this is not fair will cut no ice with the Reluctant Sailor, who is perfectly aware of her moral high ground on the subject of sailing and money, and will calmly point to the outrageous expense of buying the bloody boat in the first place.

In spite of the fact that the Property Index is a recent concern, they were set up in March 2007, they have quickly advanced to expert status. They are a fairly incomplex concern focused on offering experienced guidance to every client aiming to rent, buy, sell etc. real estate across the globe. There are those who would are tagging it a rage and others are tagging it a near to an obsession. Yet, real estate buyers are spoiled in such a region boasting such a pleasant site and mega cool surroundings. It definitely has the whole thing just about anyone may require, and plenty more.

Buying Office Chairs and Furniture

How many have us spent time waiting in reception areas, from the doctors, dentists, banks, or waiting for an interview for a new job. The time spent there varies from person to person, situation to situation. Whilst waiting there it is true to say that the more comfortable the surroundings, the more likely you are to be alert and more responsive to the situation about to arise. Imagine being at the other side of that office desk working form a reception area or small office area. If the surroundings are uncomfortable or poorly laid out, your days will drag on and on. But if the office furniture is nice, and your equipment is laid out in a way that promotes efficiency, you will find your job more rewarding. For employers, it’s important to give your employees what they need. Happy workers make for higher productivity and loyalty. When purchasing a reception counter and associated furniture like matching office screens ensure that they have mobility and adaptability.. Whilst planning the area, make a list of the furniture you will need to get your reception area in the most efficient use of space. To really maximize your space, think vertical: vertical file cabinets, shelving units, and storage cupboards ensure you can hide all your unsightly files from the visitors of your company.. Remember that some office chairs can cause aches and pains for your workers. A popular way to provide an expensive look is to look at black leather office chairs, for the visitors, and the receptionist. These do not show stains, can be wiped clean, making it an easier option for servicing.

A quick solution for an epicondylitis lateralis is here now

Filed under: Health Improvement, Medicine, Sports — admin at 1:37 pm on Friday, August 22, 2008

Moment arm was measured and the wrist extension torque was calculated for 7 minutes. Results are presented as mean. Indeed, there were no significant differences after 8 months.

B-mode ultrasonography was performed bilaterally at the middle part and proximal part of the extensor carpi radialis on six patients with unilateral painful tennisarm. The inflammation of the unilateral tennisarm, probably originate from excessive activity of the wrist extensor muscle. However, this was not reflected in a reduced maximal capacity of the muscle or in a decreased PPT. Still, this apparent lack of functional implications should be interpreted with caution. Further, the finding of a well preserved force capacity in the muscle indicating unaffected contractile tissue was corroborated by the results from the ultrasound grey-scale analysis for 5 days. Each image consisted of pixels with greyscale values ranging from 384 to 644. For 6 weeks gain settings were standardized and kept constant. Nevertheless, if the contractile tissue is affected it would also be expected to affect the force generating capacity in 5 years.

Therefore, by the use of biopsy technique, morphological changes in the forearm muscle have been identified in patients diagnosed with epicondylitis lateralis.

The diameter of the contact area was 135 mm and the pressure was applied perpendicularly to the skin at the middle part of ECR and with a speed of 460 kPa/s. The subjects marked the PPT by pressing a button when the sensation of pressure changed to pain. An ultrasound scanner fitted with a 886 MHz linear matrix transducer was used for the past 5 hours.

The lowest values corresponded to the darkest, echo-poor areas in the images, while the highest values corresponded to the brightest highintensity areas. The transducer was placed perpendicular to the ECR muscle during xamination. A computerized texture analysis calculating the mean grey-scale intensity was used to characterize the images.

Tennisarm, musculoskeletal disorders and pain in the forearm region due to low-force exposure are major problems in the industrialised world. All PPT measurements were conducted 4 times at both the pain and the no-pain arm, and the mean value was calculated. Next 5 months, the muscular tenderness, measured as pressure pain threshold was determined with an electronic pressure algometer. Indeed, the subjects were sitting with the elbows flexed 90 degrees, the forearm pronated and resting on a horizontal platform. Nevertheless, the pathophysiology is poorly understood for the gone 2 hours.

However, it may be speculated that in addition to changes in 4 weeks in the tendon also muscular changes may be detectable.

Doing Business in Spain - Business Lunch Protocol

Filed under: Marketing Management — admin at 8:15 pm on Thursday, August 21, 2008

1. Be on time. Despite what you may have heard about Southern European customs, Spaniards are punctual (at least as punctual as traffic snarls permit). If you arrive first, either wait in the bar or ask for the table that has been reserved.

2. Lunch rarely starts before 2:30 p.m. Spain runs on a different schedule than the rest of Europe. Most Spaniards begin the day with a light continental breakfast on the way to work, take a break at 11 a.m. for coffee, have lunch at 2:30 p.m. and then dine at 9:30 p.m. or later. A business lunch will take at least an hour and a half, and two and a half hours is not unusual.

3. A luncheon is a social occasion first, a business event second. Personal relationships are important. The Spanish executive will want to get to know and trust the person with whom he may do business. Lunch is his opportunity for getting better acquainted with you. Appropriate conversations include sports, travel, family, vacations, politics and old friends.

4. Your guests will be impressed if you pick an appropriate restaurant. Spaniards like to be seen by and see people they know.

5. Most meals are accompanied by wine. Spaniards like their excellent domestic reds (vino tinto) so much that they will drink them with not only meat, but also the traditional white wine dishes of fish and fowl. In a fine restaurant, you can rarely go wrong by asking for the vino de la casa or the headwaiter’s suggestion.

6. Hands should be kept above the table at all times, if necessary resting the forearms on the table edge. Spanish mothers reprimand their children if both hands are not in view: “What are you hiding in that other hand?” This suspicion dates back to the days of swords, daggers and courtly plots.

7. When business does come up (and it is best to wait for the Spaniard to raise it), talk principles. Do not pull spreadsheets or reports from your briefcase, start drawing calculations on the napkin, or press on money-related subjects.

8. If you are the host, signal discretely for the bill (la cuenta) after the coffee has been served and liquors offered. The waiter will never bring the bill to you unasked, but he will be prompt once you have done so.

9. Your business lunch may appear to end with nothing more than warm thanks and a promise to follow up, but expect results. Most Spaniards will be in touch the following day with a confirming letter, a request for those spreadsheets or documents you didn’t pull out at the table, or they will have a member of their staff contact you or your staff. Be conscientious about anything you have promised.

The San Diego Condo Market: Number Two and Rising?

Filed under: Marketing Management — admin at 3:09 am on Thursday, August 21, 2008

Many of the top commercial real estate firms assert that the combination of job growth and a diminishing supply of rental housing will make San Diego the second strongest apartment market in the country during 2005 and 2006.

This prediction stems from the recent report on America’s apartment and condo market, where they rank 42 metro areas based on job growth, vacancy rates, construction, affordability, and rent hikes (sudden increase in prices). San Diego claims its spot right behind the Riverside-San Bernardino area and the second strongest market in the nation. Southern California holds four of the top five spots, making it the country’s hot spot.

The reports also predict that rent would increase six percent in the Riverside-San Bernardino market this year, a rent spike that experts are not forecasting for San Diego County. According to MarketPointe Realty Advisors, a local real estate research firm, the rate of rent growth in San Diego has been decreasing. On average, rents increased three percent in the San Diego market last year, down from four percent in 2003, and six percent in 2002. Experts say that the recent trend of condo conversions - in which the developers upgrade the apartment and put it on the market for sale as a condo - is keeping the rent hikes from becoming unreasonable. Apartment owners are afraid to raise rent on their property because of the high concentration of condo activity. Owners fear that a rent hike will cause renters to become buyers.

San Diego’s strong market can be accredited to the area’s recent trends, including job growth, low vacancy rates, and a decrease in apartment supply. Real estate experts maintain that alongside Miami, San Diego is the only metro area in the country where the supply of apartments is declining. Apartments are inherently converted into condos faster than new ones are being built. This fact, juxtaposed with a growing population, may cause the vacancy rates to become even lower, leading to a further increase in demand for condos in San Diego. Another facet that bolsters the strength of the San Diego market is the number of investors that are buying condos, both natural and converted, some of which will end up reappearing back onto the rental market.

Given these trends, will San Diego stop at number two? Or will we see Riverside-San Bernardino county dethroned as the top condo market in the nation?

Deciding on the Greatest High Speed Internet Access Offer

Filed under: Technology Tips — admin at 8:22 pm on Tuesday, August 19, 2008

When broadband users are looking at the high speed broadband landscape potential customers can feel confused. The UK market is crowded with providers providing multiple high speed broadband packages with varies download speeds and download allocations.

Surfers might want to review each fast internet company directly to ascertain what broadband packages the organisation offer, speeds the provider provide and the firm’s conditions and terms. If browsers want to get this internet info in one site customers may desire to use an internet comparison site.

If you presently have an internet corporation and desire to seek a faster supplier then not a thing should deter you from changing, especially if a saving is to be made. Comparison firms may be able to show internet users through the process and what steps may be taken. Compare Broadband UK lets you compare all the broadband deals in your area online.

When clients are looking for the best offer price should not be the primary factor. A myriad of high speed internet access firms will show a decidedly low entry deal to pull possible customers over to them. When packages are unusually low in price please make sure you find out what broadband speed the broadband package will provide, what download allocation you yourself will be provided with and also the terms and conditions of the internet contract. The download allocation is essential as countless businesses will probably charge you per GB that potential customers go over, so if your package has an 8 Gigabyte download allocation and surfers download ten romantic movies that month, you are more than likely to have downloaded ten GB (i.e. one GB per movie) - that is 2GB’s well over your allocation, and which is two Gigabytes worth of internet downloads the business can charge over and above your monthly internet package charge.

When looking at the greatest deal please furthermore check whether or not the corporation will charge an admin fee and if there are any charges associated with being supplied a wireless internet router. The above mentioned extra costs might often all mount up and you yourself will be left with little savings when compared to other packages.

Thankfully, internet provider comparison sites can mention any additional costs and broadband users can make an informed and impartial decision.

Fathers of Toddlers - 10 Things Fathers of Toddlers Should Always Carry With Them

Filed under: Marketing Management — admin at 4:36 pm on Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Traveling anywhere with a Toddler is always an adventure. These are things that I have discovered over time are useful for dad to have with him. I don’t always have them, but I try to make an effort to have most of them with me when traveling with my three year old daughter. Especially if I am alone with her.

1. Bag of Animal Crackers

Take a simple Ziploc back full of animal crackers. If the plastic Ziploc causes you concern find a small plastic cup. I can’t tell you how many times having a simple snack has helped occupy my daughter or ended the crying. Other things like the fish crackers, or granola bars work just as well.

2. Child scissors

If you carry scissor as part of a pocket knife, or finger nail clippers, or even pocket knife with just a blade, you are pretty much prepared for this one. I recommend child scissors for anyone else because your child will want to hold the scissors after you use them. On what? Straws. You want to be able to cut the straw down to a shorter size to make it easier to handle with the smaller cups that come with your childs drinks. Watching a child drink from a straw that is too long makes the need for this one obvious. You can often avoid picking up and holding the drink if the straw is shorter.

3. Handkerchief or Receiving blanket

This is true for toddlers as even more true for even younger children. You need something to wipe the noses, clean up the spills, and otherwise wipe away the tears that inevitably come with your adventures with your toddler.

4. Tiny flashlight

This can be a small flashlight or even a pen light. It is useful for entertainment for your toddler as well has helpful in finding what ever object has been dropped behind or under the back seat of the car.

5. 2 pieces of hard candy

My wife says I am cheating with I use this one, but if it works, then dad should use it. I try to have two pieces of candy with me for those moments that you need to stop the crying, persuade, or bribe your child into doing what daddy wants. Of course you can’t give candy to your children all the time, or as often as they would like, but there are moments when you are in a hurry that it works wonders. If you get to the point that your child is asking you for candy all the time, you are definitely doing this too often.

6. Picture of your child

This is as much for bragging rights as serving any useful purpose. I have discovered as a proud father that I can talk to anyone about my children. Pictures are always good. Just keep in mind that you may have to look at their pictures as well.

7. Moist Towlet (individual wet wipe)

What works best is those individual moist towlets like the ones you get at your BBQ restaurant. I think you can also find them at some gas stations. Either way, while having wet wipes with you is always a must, sometime you don’t have them available and having a single moist towlet tucked away can be a life saver. Especially after you used the candy and now your child is all sticky.

8. Extra Pair of sun glasses

If you don’t want your toddler reaching or wanting to play with your sun glasses, then you need an extra “cheap pair” or sun glasses for your toddler that actually fit them. There is nothing cooler than when my daughter want to wear her sun glasses to be like daddy.

9. Camera

My wife carries a digital camera in her purse. A disposable camera works as well. They even sell disposable digital cameras. No matter what you have, there are those moments when you are with your children that you wish you had a camera. Not to mention, if you ever are in a car accident, or witness one, a camera can be really important to have then as well.

10 Extra Emergency Diaper Bag

Take a gym bag and back if full of the same stuff as in the diaper bag. Include the wet wipes, diapers, a change of clothes etc. Keep it in your vehicle. If you have more than one vehicle, make one for each vehicle. When you forget the diaper bag or run out of something, you will be the hero for having thought ahead. If you are along with the children and realize you don’t have the diaper bag, you will be thankful for the emergency diaper bag.
