Bowling the Perfect Game: Develop Your Approach

Filed under: Better Recreation, Fun Infos, World Of Games — admin at 3:57 am on Friday, July 31, 2009

Almost daily I meet a social bowler eager to treat this intricate sport with new respect. Should that be your calling, this moment is critical cross-roads in learning the game as a true bowler. Our introduction to bowling is for you. Professionals at a local bowling pro shop can help clients harness bowling talent. We like to say, roll strikes if can spare ‘em (hehe). I kid. Okay, if only it were that simple. No worry, with a little guidance we’ll make sure you’re rolling with the proper steps to bowling greatness.

It’s not a big purchase, buy your own custom fit equipment at your bowling pro shop! Rentals and house balls suck. I promise, have your own ball fitted, and you can make more of your practice time. A well weighted bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. It’s also important you’re sliding out your final step in actual bowling shoes which have shoe laces!

Since you went ahead and found your bowling equipment, here’s the second best bowling tip: aiming the ball. While you face the pins, try not to focus on your actual target, the pins. Use the markings like a sight on a firearm. Why, you ask? It is easier to aim for a point that is closer. To take full advantage, include it as part of your routine to stand in the same position 4 steps from the foul line every approach. Only then you can fine-tune your aim using the arrows in the lane.

Do you ever wonder how pros roll with curves, to achieve ball handling and velocity? It is our bowling tip #3. The secret is the specialized bowling ball. Actually, professional bowlers regularly roll at least two bowling balls to pull off heavy pin action, according to the lane. Just a bit of caution: greenhorns should keep it simple, and avoid a ball that is too heavy for you. A lot of serious bowlers travel with bowling balls with extra expert grip. Steer clear of them, because these special-made balls often make even some well known bowlers seem like beginners. With these tips you’re on the right track. Rest assured you’ll find shortly.

I manage Team “Pindemonium” comprised of the operation at a major bowling ball retailer here in Kansas City. I provide tips to aspiring bowlers at my blog and at the lanes. Lastly, I want to plug all my heavy rollers heading into tournament play. Sorry I can’t be there.

Why Were Astrologers Thought of as Evil in the 20th Century

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 11:47 am on Thursday, July 30, 2009

Evangeline Adams was perhaps the most famous American astrologer. By the time of her death in 1932, she was a national media star with a three times weekly radio show, offices in New York’s Carnegie Hall (in the back of the building) and 25 assistants handling thousands of letters a week.

During those times, and even now, astrologers we’re often confused with and prosecuted as fortune tellers. (see the evolution of astrology in Atlanta Ga.). Yet, Evangeline Adams made no effort to hide her astrological work, and as a result was charged, but unsuccessfully prosecuted, several times while in New York City. Nowadays, love horoscopes and the like are common, but in those days astrologers were considered dangerous.

Her most famous trial was in 1914, when she was acquitted of any wrong doing after successfully defending herself by giving the judge an accurate astrology reading that described the death of his son. Newspapers of the time quoted Judge Freschi as saying; Adams “had raised astrology to the dignity of an exact science.”

The full affect astrology had on Hitler’s Germany or the decisions of Nazi leaders such as Hess and Himmler who, among others, were fascinated with astrology will probably never be known. But whatever status a few might once have had in Nazi Germany, ended when Hess became disillusioned with the war and fled to Scotland to try to make a peace deal with the Brits. Yes, astrologers, along with faith healers, clairvoyants, graphologists, Christian Scientists and spiritualists, were definitely out of favor and found themselves arrested and at worst sent to concentration camps.

Why Bother to Keep a Sleep Diary?

Filed under: Life Of Templates — admin at 10:59 am on Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Do you sleep well? If not, do you know why?

Keeping a sleep diary will allow you to find patterns in your sleep habits. For instance you may find, for instance, that you sleep better after a meal that is high in carbohydrates as opposed to one that is high in protein.

Or you may find that a short nap in the middle of the day keeps you awake at night. Others may find the opposite - a nap during the day helps them sleep better at night.

Only by keeping a regular record of the things that affect your sleep will you be able to pinpoint and avoid the “sleep stealers” that you may not have previously been aware of. It only takes a few minutes a day and can pay dividends over time if you’re a poor sleeper.

So what sorts of things should we write in our sleep diary? Well the most important ones are:

Naps - record any naps during the day, even the five minute doze in front of the TV. Also record the time of day when you napped.

Dinner - What did you have to eat for your evening meal and at what time?

Coffee/tea or any other caffeinated drinks - How many and what time was the last one?

Alcohol - Did you have any alcoholic drinks today? When and how many?

Relaxation - did you practice any relaxation exercises during the day? For how long and at what time?

Medications - what medications (sleeping or other) did you take in the latter part of the day?

Activities - what happened today? Was it a normal day for you or did something out of the ordinary occur? What were you doing just before bed?

In bed - Did you read or watch TV in bed? What time did you turn off the lights?

And the following morning make a note of the following:

How long did it take you to fall asleep last night?

How many times did you wake up?

What time did you get out of bed?

What was the quality of your sleep?

It may sound a bit of a chore at first, but with practice you can do this fairly quickly. Over time you will notice a definite pattern emerging which will enable you to isolate activities or eating habits which have a negative impact on your sleep. It may be reading or watching TV in bed, or it may be too may be alcoholic drinks after dinner. Then you can take steps to eliminate or cut down on these activities to achieve better sleep.

Convert Your Car to Wind Power and Save Gasoline!

Filed under: Video Management — admin at 7:03 am on Tuesday, July 28, 2009

It would be certainly great if we could convert our current automobiles, light trucks and SUVs to wind powered cars and save fuel; whether it be diesel, ethanol blend or even gasoline. Is it possible to convert your current car to run on wind or run on a combination of its current propulsion system and wind as a hybrid? Well, this subject has been a topic of conversation in an online think tank and a reporter from the UK, Laura asks;

“Could we convert our present cars to wind power?

Not entirely and certainly not currently with the drawing board only theories and over all concept, however it is believed that we could retrofit them to use wind to increase the power efficiency and thus lower the fuel use by a wide margin. How would this be possible? Well the relative airflows of the air around the car would be sped up using a combination of sound or lasers and some aerodynamic principles of nature and this would increase the speed of the automobile.

Well at least in the theory of such technologies such as vortex airflows induced on modern fighter aircraft. But still it would take a little bit of work to get that air moving that fast and thus a laser induced vortex might do the trick and this would be mounted on the front of your car you see? Sound to Sci Fi; yes well today it is, but tomorrow, well that is a whole different story you see? Consider this in 2006.

What Have I Been Reading Lately, What I Believe about Twitter and Why Blogging Is the Best

Filed under: Money + Finance — admin at 8:38 am on Friday, July 24, 2009

I have been taking in a lot of great new blogs of late. I am not sure about all the twitter tizzy. I still relish blogs and have a substantial number in my feed reader.

The essence of blogs is that you can find hidden gems, and they are from people that in reality like to put pen to paper.

Sure you can notice some cool individuals on twitter. But, seriously, twitter is for individuals with add or who dont like to write longer posts. Yes, rafts of people twitter and also blog, and those people are fine by me, but I am invariably and always a blog devotee.

Blogs impel the author to in reality articluate their feeling. Twitter alternatively merely allows you to say it. Call me old fashioned but I believe there is a point where smaller is no longer better. We have been obsessed with miniturization for so long. Particularly when it comes to technology. Surely there has to be a level where we figure substance matters. Value matters. What do you suppose?

Perchance the down-to-earth answer dwells in balance. And compromise. You cannot squeeze individuals to have heart and soul and not be superficial. But, too maybe you need to drive the inward looking hippies to lighten up a touch aswell?

Talent Management: the Important Points

Filed under: Business Opps, Management Parlor, Misc — admin at 10:12 am on Thursday, July 23, 2009

A thriving business depends on the efficient management of staff. You may succeed in improving in these skills. It may be a plus to have a intuitive affinity for people, nevertheless you can do many things to help the process. Build relationships: Begin by memorizing staff’s names. Engage in conversation; look individuals in the eye as you are speaking. Show respect, and be sure to listen to what the other individual says, even if you don’t agree or have a different viewpoint. Listening to what others say is one of the most important people management skills you can learn. Show an interest in what they can contribute to the team. Live up to your word: Do not give promises you can’t fulfill. When a promise is broken, it can ruin trust, and if they can’t trust you your staff will not give you their best. Each time you give a commitment or give a promise, ensure you can follow through or don’t bother giving your word at all. The truth is, when your people can’t depend on you, your team can’t be relied on to be there when you really need them. Feedback is essential: Feedback must be a reciprocal process. Maintaining an open mind with regard to other people’s ideas is an important skill in effective people management. If you are willing to show approachability and openness, you prove that you want to hear other’s ideas, your ideas will be valued in the same fashion. Promoting discussion in addition furthers evolution of fresh ways of doing business, innovative ways of fulfilling the mission of the company, and strengthens the team. When team members have a voice, the project and the outcome becomes important to every employee.

Encourage communication: Good communication is the key to dealing with employees effectively. Be accessible, listen closely to people, be open minded, and allow all your team to express themselves. Employees must be inspired to talk to each other not just with you. The exchange of thoughts is necessary in the creative process, and in listening to one another, it is easy to discover issues before they could present problems, allowing corrective measures to be implemented to prevent further problems. A little time is needed, however the payoff is worthwhile. By establishing the bonds of a good team and demonstrating effective listening skills, a successful business will be yours.

In Light of the Depression Numerous Ski Operators Will Be Cutting down Their Amount of Luxury Catered Ski Chalets

Filed under: Better Recreation, Online Travel Resources — admin at 7:26 am on Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Due to the down turn ski sales lowered last winter.

Even with strong early sales and great skiing conditions.

This drop in vacationers follows 6 winters of sequential growth in the ski industry, and the numbers reduced from 1.15 million in 2008/9 to 850000 last ski season.

Partly due to skiers giving the season a miss, whilst additional skiers who’d ordinarily take two or more snowboarding breaks, just had one.

The independent travel sector fell by 15% with some low priced airlines reducing the amount of flights to several airports.

Moreover tour operators witnessed the sales going down by about the same amount.

Nevertheless, the top six tour operators market share continued at just over 70% with ski chalets France remaining the most popular destination with about 37% of holidays.

Due to this several ski operators cut down the no. of luxury chalets they run this coming season.

Catered chalets especially will witness a reduction in holiday makers in light of the fact that a luxury catered chalet costs the operator more in terms of chefs and rental when it is not sold.

Therefore it’s unlikely that we shall see the type of special offers that were on the market last season.

Although costs are likely to rise, prices probably won’t go up much.

The 2009/10 season presents real challenges for the skiing industry that is affected by the events of the credit crunch, weakness of the pound against the euro, soaring costs of fuel as well as large fixed costs for skiing businesses.

This year snowboarders will be progressively cost aware, this will add to a reversal of the recent years which saw a increase in the independent travel sector.

The big tour operators could foreseeable re gain the ground lost to the independent travel sector if they are able to use their purchasing power to wrangle better costs and pass this to consumers as inviting offers.

Viatical Settlement Broker

Filed under: Great Insurance Tips, Lifestyle Portal, Secure Investments — admin at 8:59 am on Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Viatical Settlement Broker and life settlements deal in the sale of life insurance policies by the policy owner for less than the final value of the life insurance policy, to groups of investors. The other investors are designed to gain when the death of the originally insured happens by collecting more in death benefits than they originally paid out for the policy in the first place. This means, they pay out an amount which is less for the transaction costs, purchase price, and any premiums required. This usually amounts to much higher profits the more quickly the original policy holder passes. Viatical settlements are just about the same thing as what a life settlement is, except that the life insurance policy holder is chronically or terminally ill as outlined in IRS regulations. As of June 2009, this has become a $18 to $19 billion dollar industry. These type of investments have been around since 1911 to Americans. During the notoriety of the AIDS epidemic during the mid 1980’s, these people’s policies were sought out by policy holders, as well, the recent recession and ensuing credit crunch have made a demand for the purchase and for investors to seek out these types of policies, as often, for many older people, thier policy is one of their most worthy possessions.
Generally, life settlement and viatical deals are mostly options for people of high net worth and over 70 years of age. Estimates report that from this group of canidates, around 20% of them have life insurance policies that would have a market value that is above the cash value offered by the carrier. A increasing number of experts believe that letting clients know about offering life settlements and viaticals should come under the duty of financial advisers. With this established, those involved in the industry are now placing an emphasis of life settlement and viatical education on individuals in the financial industry in order that they can make aware of and present accurately the life settlements or viaticals option to every client who might possibly benefit from it., life policy holders 70 and older are major candidates, but sometimes as low as 55 years of age are eligible or possible. On the most part, the policies of such people need to have at least a face value of $50,000, and to have policies that have been active for a minimum of 2 years. There are quite a few people that are required for a transaction of this kind occurring. You have the policy holder, you have financial advisers, the policy providers, brokers, viatical investors, as well as life expectancy providers and many others. Life settlements and viatical settlements are quickly becoming a more popular type of investment also as a path for older people to cover their costs and quickly rising medical expenses later in life.
