JLS Pleased They Did Not Win X Factor

X FACTOR runners up JLS insist they’re glad they lost out to last year’s winner Alexandra Burke - and said they wouldn’t have won two Mobos otherwise.

The boy band, who swiped two gongs at this year’s music awards, said they didn’t need to win the ITV1 contest to be successful.

One fourth of the band, Marvin, said: “With hindsight now, we’re glad we didn’t win the X Factor because we wouldn’t be in this position.

“We’ve had an amazing start, Alex is a deserved winner, she’s a fantastic artist and we’ve now won two Mobos.

“It’s not always about winning, it’s not always about beating someone, it’s about us establishing ourselves in the market place and having a career in music.”

The boys also stood up for the way the show delves into contestants’ private lives and bangs on about their sob stories.

Oritse said: “You get very attached to people. I almost don’t believe in the term ’sob story’, because for me, it’s one of the biggest reasons why the show is so relatable to the general public.

“Nobody wants to see fully auditioned artists going onto that show being well groomed and well prepared.”

The group, who were mentored by Louis Walsh and saw their debut single Beat Again leap straight to number one, also admitted that cracking America is in their sights for the future.

But for now, they insisted, it’s all about doing well on their home turf.
